Report: Sixers plan to work out Florida State guard Malik Beasley

.

Today was the second day of the 2016 NBA Draft combine, where players went through more interviews, testing and played against each other in 5-on-5 games.

The Philadelphia 76ers continued to do their due diligence at combine interviewing players such as Providence’s Kris Dunn, Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson, Vanderbilt’s Wade Baldwin IV and others.

One player in particular that the Sixers interviewed this morning, they will also be bringing in for a workout. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Florida State guard Malik Beasley told the media that the Sixers plan to bring him in for a workout.

Beasley had a solid freshman year at Florida State this past season averaging 15.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 29.8 minutes per game. He and Dwayne Bacon, who is also a freshman, powered the Seminoles to a 20-14 record in a very tough ACC.

Beasley, the 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard is just what this Sixers’ offense needs as he is a shooter. This past season, he shot 47.1-percent from the field and 38.7-percent from three-point range. Beasley has a smooth perimeter jumper with an easy follow through.

Another thing about Beasley is that his outside shooting can help the Sixers stretch the floor, which will help big men such as Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid, who can do damage inside the paint. Unlike fellow freshman Malachi Richardson, Beasley’s offensive game is much more developed as he looks comfortable in the flow of Florida State’s offense.

Finally, another thing Sixers fans will like about Beasley’s game is that he can run the floor, putting pressure on the defense using his athleticism.

Currently, DraftExpress has Beasley mocked to the Sixers with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. If the Sixers could get their hands on a player like Beasley it makes spacing the floor that much easier especially if they can grab Brandon Ingram.

The Sixers could possibly go into next season with Ingram at the three and Beasley at two, which isn’t a bad ACC freshman combo at all.
