Report: Sixers want Andrei Kirilenko to report to team

Since being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers from the Brooklyn Nets, Andrei Kirilenko has not shown up to play or practice. Before the trade, Kirilenko was inactive on the Nets roster and hasn’t played in a game since November 13.

Now, there are many reasons why he has not shown up to play for the Sixers and even the Nets. One of the reasons, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is that Kirilenko has been dealing with a family medical issue that has kept him in the New York City area since the trade.

But the Sixers are willing to work with Kirilenko during this tough time, but thus far, he has not budged. If Kirilenko does show up to practice and get into game shape it could help showcase his talents in which Sixers GM Sam Hinkie could trade him at the deadline for more assets.

Here is more from Wojnarowski:

The Philadelphia 76ers are requesting forward Andrei Kirilenko report to the team and prepare to start playing in games, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

For now, Kirilenko and his representatives are resisting the Sixers’ overtures, preferring the organization waive Kirilenko and let him become a free agent, sources said. …

Kirilenko, 33, wants the balance of the $3.3 million owed to him this season, and ultimately the freedom to sign elsewhere on a new deal this season, sources said. So far, he’s been unwilling to join the rebuilding Sixers, but eventually could be mandated to report to the team to collect on his contract.

The question is will Kirilenko join the Sixers and if he does, will someone make a trade for him? I don’t see a trade happening because I don’t think the league wants to give Sam Hinkie more assets as he already has 21 total picks between 2015-2020. Most likely, Kirilenko will be a free agent and will be picked up by a contender.
