Report: Spurs front runners for Diaw

We told you earlier today that Boris Diaw had been bought out and would become a free agent if he clears waivers.  If what Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting is correct (it almost always is), the Spurs are pursuing Diaw and are in the lead for his services.

“The San Antonio Spurs have emerged as frontrunners to sign forward Boris Diaw should he clear waivers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.”

It’s important to note that Diaw has to clear waivers before the Spurs can do anything with him.  This normally isn’t a problem but there was at least one team that expressed interest in Diaw before the trade deadline.  The Nets were rumored to be interested in Diaw before the deadline.  Luckily after the Gerlad Wallace trade they don’t have enough cap space to sign the Frenchman.  The Spurs will have to wait till Friday for Diaw to clear waivers.  That’s also the final day teams can sign guys and have them available for the postseason.  Hopefully the Spurs will have two new players to introduce then since Patty Mills still isn’t signed because of visa issues.

Tony Parker swears the guy is in shape and even if he isn’t just keep in mind, black is a very slimming color.  Hopefully the Spurs are using that as a selling point.
