Report: Spurs interested in Chuck Hayes

It looked like free agent forward Chuck Hayes would be making a return to the SacramentoCH Kings after agreeing to a four year, 21 million dollar deal. Then when the time came for a physical, the Kings’ doctor said Hayes was at risk for heart problems so the Kings voided the deal.

Yesterday, Hayes visited one of the premiere cardiovascular medical clinics in Cleveland where he has been cleared to continue playing professional basketball. With Hayes still a free agent, the Kings will try to restructure a new deal, but other teams are interested, including the San Antonio Spurs, in Hayes too according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

Agent Calvin Andrews tells Y! Sports Sac frontrunner to sign Chuck Hayes, but Hou, SA, Minny in mix too. Decision likely to come after Xmas.

Last season with the Kings, Hayes averaged 7.9 points per game, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 53% from the field. Hayes would be even smaller than DeJuan Blair at center as he measures at a 6’6″ and 250 lbs.

With Antonio McDyess retiring, the Spurs are left with a very thin front-line of Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter, Blair, and Matt Bonner. The team also played camp invitees Gani Lawal and Frank Hassell in last night’s preseason win over the Houston Rockets.
