The Minnesota Timberwolves continue their search for a new head coach. Names that have been mentioned to take over the reigns in Minnesota have been current Timberwolves assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff, Sam Mitchell, and Kelvin Sampson.
According to twincities.com, Sampson, who spent time with the San Antonio Spurs as an advisor in 2008, will be getting a vote of confidence from Spurs coach Gregg Popovich:
Sampson, despite a long history as a college coach, has significant NBA ties, including San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who is expected to recommend him to Wolves owner Glen Taylor.
Sampson, who was also hired in 2008 as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks and is considered a coaching candidate for the Pistons, does come with controversy.
While as a college coach he was involved in numerous recruitment violations at Indiana and Oklahoma.
