After their Week 6 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the New England Patriots lost two key components to their team in running back Steven Ridley and linebacker Jerod Mayo.

With the Patriots already having depth at the running back position there was no need to go out and sign another RB. But at the linebacker position, the Pats lost Mayo, who is a leader on that defense and depth. Mayo was a first round pick back in the 2008 NFL Draft. So far this season, he had 53 combined tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

To replace Mayo’s impact, the Patriots are going to make a trade with the Tennessee Titans. According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, the Titans are trading linebacker Akeem Ayers to New England.

For the Patriots, this is a solid pickup as Ayers has been a healthy scratch thus far this season. Over his entire career, Ayers has 232 combined tackles, 9 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions.

Finally, in terms of this season, he only had three combined tackles which came against the Cleveland Browns in a loss on October 5.
