After the sudden firing of Rob Chudzinski Sunday evening, The Cleveland Browns are being aggressive in their search for a new head coach. According to media reports, the team has reached out to Josh McDaniels, Jon Gruden, and Bill Cowher early on.
The front office had an interview on December 30 with Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase. The team is expected to meet with Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. According to media reports, Gase has declined to do any interviews until Denver’s playoff run is over. Cleveland is expected to talk to McDaniels–a Canton, Ohio native and former John Caroll University standout, since the Patriots have a first round bye, sometime within the next week.
The Browns are also set to talk to Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles, to help satisify the NFL’s requirement of interviewing a minority candiate.
Cleveland needs a head coach with experience and a talent for producing a winning team. If the Browns hire an unpolished head coach, it would be as illogical as using a fire extinguisher when the entire house is burning down.
