Report: McNabb preferred retirement to Raiders

Once upon a time, the Raiders were the team that players wanted to come for that last hurrah. The years of losing and rudderlessness seems to have taken their toll, as reports have emerged that Donovan McNabb would have chosen retirement over a trade to Oakland.

The rumors ran fast and furious for a couple of weeks that had Donovan McNabb all but on a Southwest flight from Philly to Oakland for any number of compensation options.

In the end, McNabb was traded from the Eagles to the Washington Redskins for their second round pick in 2010 and a third round in 2011.

Late in the rumor cycle, it surfaced that McNabb had stated that he didn’t want to go to Oakland. The word was that he was going to refuse to sign an extension. The retirement angle was added to the mix by our friends at Profootballtalk.com.
