Resign or Release: Andrew Sendejo

Each week we will be looking at different free agents that the Minnesota Vikings have on the roster. We will look at their strengths, weakness, and how valuable they are to the team. This week will be focusing on:

SS Andrew Sendejo:

Andrew Sendejo won the starting strong safety position at training camp when he beat Robert Blanton. Which all Vikings fans can agree was a good thing. But the story of Sendejo has been a bit more gray than black and white since then. He is second on the team with a combined 74 tackles but none for a loss. He led all NFL safeties in tackling efficiency within five yards of the line of scrimmage but he didn’t get a pass deflection all season.

Sendejo stood out against the run, but tied Eric Kendricks for a team high 12 missed tackles. He was in position but shrunk on a 38 yard completion to Amari Cooper in Week 10, but gave up a 34 yard touchdown just plays later. You see where I’m going with this right?

The story of Andrew Sendejo has been complicated to say the least. He made bad plays but could manage to come back a few plays later or the next game. Not to mention when he was out with his knee injuries the Vikings had to fall back on Antone Exum or Robert Blanton; which made all Vikings fans miss the back and forth play of Sendejo a lot. But that being said the safety position opposite Harrison Smith is the second biggest off season concern the first being, and very obvious, the offensive line upgrades.

A lot like the way Sendejo plays, I go back and forth. The guy can hit hard. And towards the end of the season he did improve a lot. But it’s almost too little too late. Once you accidently hit your own teammate you should probably re evaluate a lot of things. In an ideal world Sendejo could be a backup safety but the Vikings need a starter. Someone who is going to show up and play hard all the time.

VERDICT: RELEASE
