WARRIORS PRACTICE FACILITY, OAKLAND, CA — On Tuesday night in the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2015 NBA Playoffs, the Golden State Warriors suffered their first home loss since January 27th, when they lost to the Chicago Bulls, 113-111, in overtime.
Game 2’s 97-90 loss came at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies, and ended the Warriors franchise-long winning streak at home at 21 straight. The series is now tied 1-1 and shifting to Memphis, with home court advantage now in the Grizzlies’ favor.
This past regular season, the Warriors suffered back-to-back losses just four times and never lost three games in a row. Of their fifteen losses this season, eleven times the Warriors followed up with a win.
“We knew it was going to be tough to go 16-and-0,” Klay Thompson told reporters yesterday after practice. “This is some of the first adversity we’ve ever faced, so we’ve got a couple options. We could hang our heads or we can go in there and fight in Memphis.
We’re the best road team in the NBA for a reason, so we can go in there and win if we play hard enough. That’s what we expect to do, so the trick now for Coach (Steve Kerr in speaking with the team) is confidence. We didn’t get to this position not having confidence and believing in each other.”
“It’s really the first time we’ve faced some adversity really all year,” said Draymond Green at the post-practice media scrum. “Everything’s been great. Everything’s been just fun, kind of just blowing with the wind. Now you face a little adversity.
We hadn’t lost a game at home in so long. Hadn’t lost a game in a while, period. So now it’s time to really strap up and go show what we’re made of.”
“I’m very confident in our resiliency, coming back and playing well for Game 3,” Curry said during his postgame press conference after the loss in Game 2. “I’m not worried about that at all.”
Tip-off for Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday May 9th, at 5:00PM PDT.
