I never know what to make of all the brushback stuff after a night like last night. It was pretty clear that Ramon Oritz was throwing at Andrew McCutchen, so the team has the right to be pissed. But why should the Dodgers being a bunch of chickensh**ts (warning: broad generalization) have everyone upset at Zach Duke? The guy gets absolutely no offensive support and he’s supposed to put a runner on base for free just to prove a point? I’m sorry, I don’t buy that.
Whatever the case, there are two important things to keep in mind for today’s game. One is that Jeff Karstens is not afraid to make a point (remember the Cryan Braun incident) and two is that Brian Bass is plenty well rested. In the case that Karstens makes a full start without getting tossed today, he’ll be looking to build on his solid season debut from Tuesday night against the Brewers. Obviously, I’d like to see a K/BB ratio that’s a little better than 1:1, because that’d give him a better shot at not letting runs score. He’ll face Hiroki Kuroda, who’s been excellent for the Dodgers in his four starts so far.
A win today makes this a pretty successful 4-3 road trip for the Bucs, especially given how things started. First pitch is at 4:10 ET. Clemente/Cangelosi is after the jump.
