According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, the Spurs and Bucks have agreed to a trade that would net the Spurs Richard Jefferson. The Bucks would receive Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto.
From Chad Ford’s SportsNation Chat:
Bowen, Oberto and Thomas are all in the last year of their contracts. It saves them roughly $3 million this year and $15 million next year. And it gives them some flexibility to sign at least one of their restricted free agents — either Charlie Villanueva or Ramon Sessions.
Ford broke this in his chat and got a call from a source reporting the deal while he was in the chat. Before the trade deadline, the Spurs were reportedly in negotiations to land Jefferson, but hit a snag when the Bucks wanted Roger Mason and George Hill.
Jefferson, who averaged just under 20 points per game last season, would give the Spurs some much needed athleticism and some help at small forward that has been a weakness the last couple of years.
More on the trade as information becomes available.
