Rickie Weeks was put on the 15-day DL on Monday afternoon by the Brewers. Weeks flew back to Milwaukee after the game in Colorado yesterday to have his left knee examined. No serious damage was found, it’s thought to be just a sprain but Weeks will sit for the next couple weeks to heal up.
Hernan Iribarren was recalled from Triple A Nashville to replace Weeks on the roster. Iribarren was up earlier in the season and went 2-6 in limited action. He was batting .273 in Nashville with 14 stolen bases. Iribarren started his career as a second baseman but has now moved to the outfield full-time although I don’t think a move back to second base is completely out of the question.
Weeks going on the DL will silence the rumors that had started about him being traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Brian Roberts. Frankly, I hope this trade talk goes away. I’m not opposed to Rickie being traded but I have no interest in Brian Roberts in return. I could live with Iribarren at second base and trading Rickie for a pitcher, but I would like to see Rickie at least play out the season as a Brewer and try and turn around his bad start to the season.
