O.k., folks, just 56 days away and we are back to our countdown after a two day break to enjoy some much needed downtime for the staff here. Hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day holiday. That said, let's get straight to business.
Chances are you are going to be seeing a lot of No. 56 this season and that's because they two mean, Riki Kodanko and James McGuire, are playing increased roles this season. McGuire is the Badgers No. 1 long snapper and a 2012 academic All-Big Ten selection, majoring in business (emphasis in accounting, management, and human resources). He played in all 14 games for the Badgers last season, recording two tackles on special teams.
Kodanko on the other hand is a name that emerged this spring as a big time backup option on the offensive line. Partly because of a lack of depth and mainly because of his overall performance. One thing is for sure, Kodanko has likely earned himself his first shot at playing time in his redshirt Junior season. At 6'9" and 332lbs. Kodanko is one of the largest offensive lineman that Badgers have and he will be counted on this season.
Now the question is will we see both of them on the field at the same time on special teams? That's a heck of a question.
History of No. 56 at Wisconsin:
Frank Molinario (C, 1930-32): He was one of the most versatile players the Badgers had in the 1930's, playing both sides of the football and earning the nickname "60 minute moon" for his efforts. Molinario was the 1932 team that went 6-1-1. He stayed active in the Badgers family, heading up the National W club for one year and also the Mendota Gridiron Club for one year as well.
