After watching one of the most entertaining San Francisco 49ers games of all-time, fans probably tuned into the Sacramento Kings hoping for a Northern California sweep. What they got was the worst first-half performance in Kings history, en route to a 99-60 drubbing at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks.
Playing for the second time in as many nights, the Kings scored just 23 points after two quarters, falling behind by 29 before the break. Jason Terry led all scorers with 21 points in just 22 minutes of action, as the Mavericks played all 13 men on their roster. Tyreke Evans, J.J. Hickson and rookie Jimmer Fredette each went 1-for-8 from the field in Saturday’s crushing defeat.
Notes and Analysis
- J.J. Hickson has started the last five games in place of the injured Chuck Hayes. During that stint, Hickson has averaged 6.8 points per game, while shooting just 37 percent (14-for-38) from the field.
- Jimmer Fredette is in a similar tailspin. After tonight’s 1-for-8 performance, Jimmer is now shooting just 34 percent from the field on the season.
- It’s hard to get assists when you can’t hit the broad side of a barn, but 10 assists on the night is atrocious. The Mavs, meanwhile, had 19.
- The Kings combined to shoot 2-for-21 from three-point range. Marcus Thornton (1-for-7) and Jimmer (1-for-4) hit the only two long balls for the Kings on the night.
- DeMarcus Cousins has been under the weather for the last few days, but still managed another double-double tonight. The big man out of Kentucky scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 29 minutes.
- Jason Thompson continued his quality play off the bench for Keith Smart. JT scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in 19 minutes of action.
- After scoring 11 points off the bench last night in Houston, Francisco Garcia went scoreless in 25 minutes of action.
- Tyreke Evans played his worst game of the season, scoring just three points on the evening, while hitting only one of his eight shot attempts.
- The Kings shot just 25.6 percent from the field and scored only 23 points in the first half.
- Stat of Night: The Kings set a few records in franchise futility. Their 23-point first half was the worst half in Kings/Royals history (the previous mark was 25 points in a loss to the Boston Celtics in 1957). And with 26-percent shooting, the Kings broke a Sacramento-era record for lowest field-goal percentage in a single game, previously 27.9 percent set in 2008 also against the Celtics.
