Tonight, the Rockies beat the Phillies by the score of 5-3, to tie the series at 1.
This game was definitely not a return to the bigs to remember for Tyler Cloyd. He went 6 innings and gave up 5 earned runs on 8 hits. That’s not good, at all.
This game started off pretty bad for the Phillies. The leadoff batter Dexter Fowler walked, and was then erased on a DJ LeMahieu fielder’s choice. The next batter, though, was Troy Tulowitzki. Tulowitzki hit a long home run to left field, and that gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead. Later that inning, Michael Cuddyer scored on a Tyler Cloyd wild pitch, so then the Rockies were up 3-0. The Phillies were held scoreless in the bottom of the first, and the Rockie-bats were back at it in the 2nd inning, when Dexter Fowler hit an RBI single to right, that gave the Rockies a 4-0 lead. The Phillies were held scoreless again in the bottom of the 2nd inning, and in the top of the 3rd inning, Rockie catcher Willin Rosario hit a home run to left field to give the Rockies a 5 run lead.
The bottom of the 3rd inning started with a John Mayberry Jr. single, and he then advance to 2nd base on a Tyler Cloyd sac bunt. That was followed by a Jimmy Rollins walk. The next batter was Carlos Ruiz, and he hit a routine ground ball to first base, but it went right under Todd Helton’s glove, and John Mayberry Jr. scored; the Phillies were then down 5-1. The next batter was Chase Utley, and he hit a single to right field, that scored Jimmy Rollins. Then Domonic Brown was up, and he hit a sac fly that scored Carlos Ruiz, and the Phillies were only down by 2 runs.
There was no more scoring after that, 5-3 ended up being the final score of the game. The Phillies managed to only get 3 hits today, which is not good, not good at all. With the series being tied 1-1, the Phillies and the Rockies will look to take a 2-1 series lead in the game tomorrow.
