The Phillies have traded Jimmy Rollins. Rollins who became the club’s all time leader in hits this past summer has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia.
Rollins was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1996 draft and made his major league debut in 2000. He won the NL MVP in the 2007 and was part of the 2008 World Championship team. He has been the face of the franchise almost since the day he got to town. Rollins led all shortstops in fielding percentage last season.
There were times last season that he clashed with rookie manager Ryne Sandberg which included him being benched. He also clashed with former manager Charlie Manuel.
Rollins will not only be remembered for his issues with managers but also the fact that he came and started the turn around of the franchise. His biggest moment as a Phillie took place in the 2009 NLCS when he hit a walk off double against the Dodgers.
During his career with the Phillies, Rollins was a three time All Star and won four Gold Gloves. Besides leading the franchise in hits, he also leads the franchise in at-bats, doubles, and stolen bases. He is second in games, runs, total bases, triples, singles, and extra base hits.
It has not yet been confirmed who the Phillies are receiving from the Dodgers. Earlier reports indicate, RHP Alex Lee. Lee pitched for AAA Albuquerque in 2014. He made 27 starts and had a record of 7-13 with a 5.44 ERA. He is rated as the Dodgers 6th best prospect by MLB.com.
Rollins and the Dodgers will make their only visit to Philadelphia August 4-6. After that his next visit will be when he is inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame.
Antonio Bastardo was also traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a minor league pitcher.
