Romo Executes Clutch Game Winner Against Giants

Tony Romo’s still has a few more years left in him and tonight he treated us to an amazing signature comeback win. The Cowboys had to overcome themselves to win this game. The Cowboys outplayed the Giants, but the sloppy turnovers and critical penalties show this team is far from invincible.

Tonight’s game had a lot of bright spots, but some key injuries could leave us struggling on both sides of the ball. Dez Bryant suffered a foot injury, he broke a bone in his foot, and will be out 4-6 weeks, he’s scheduled for surgery.

Randy Gregory injury looked bad on replay, but his early diagnosis is a high ankle sprain. The Cowboys will know more about Gregory tomorrow.

Ronald Leary has a groin strain that will get a closer look as well. It’ll be interesting to see if the Cowboys decide to activate La’el Collins if needed next week. The Cowboys do like to carry Bernadeau because he gives you a backup option for Frederick as well.

As for the game here is what I liked:

— The defense

The Cowboys shutdown Odell Beckham, and it should be acknowledged that Claiborne and Carr played well tonight. I liked what I saw from Randy Gregory and his ability to make the Giants nervous. Gregory was a real factor in the game, it’ll be up to the other reserves to step up in rotation.

— Offensive Line

The Cowboys started the game with a classic tone setting game plan by shoving the running game down the Giants throat, they look in mid-season form. If the Cowboys can overcome the Dez Bryant injury, we’ll see this offensive line wear down defenses, they’ll get after you. I  liked how they looked tonight, Romo has a clean pocket a great majority of the game. Impressive.

— The running game

I thought the Cowboys did a solid job in the running game and gobbling up the clock, but once the game got a little out of control, the Cowboys needed to score quick, so the running game was abandoned. The media is taking the story with another angle.

— Special Teams

They played way better than I thought and they kept Dwayne Harris from making big plays. We needed them to step it up and they did tonight.

— The Negatives

For tonight’s game, the negatives were simple — turnovers. The Cowboys seemed to be in a daze, they were able to move the ball, but they would kill themselves with sloppy execution and the turnovers were the result. The Giants tuned the turnovers into 17 points.

Joseph Randle ran well, but he scares me the way he holds the ball or reaches the ball out for extra yards. I hope we don’t see anymore turnovers from Randle.

The wide receivers as a whole looked hungover for a majority of the game with dropped passes and Cole Beasley with his fumble.

The injury to Dez Bryant is going to hurt us, but the Cowboys did show tonight they can move and score TDs with the weapons they have. I would expect the Cowboys to sign a receiver by tomorrow, but we’ll see.

Jeremy Mincey almost sunk us with his selfish game changing penalty at the end of the game, that was disappointing.
