Training camp is underway and there are a lot of rookies that have impressed thus far. The two rookies that have stood out are tight end Zach Ertz and wide receiver Russell Shepard. All week in camp the coaches have been saying nothing but positive things about these two.
Zach Ertz, who is 6 foot 5 250 pounds, is a versatile tight end who can block and catch the ball deep. At camp coaches and players were surprised at how well he ran his routes. With Celek and Harbor on the roster, Chip Kelly will also use Ertz in a three tight end formation this season which can be deadly to opposing defenses. Many sources at the eagles training camp said Ertz catches everything thrown his way.
This is a real good sign because the Eagles need a person who can go across the middle and catch tough balls. If he keeps improving he might find himself number two on the tight end depth chart. Next up I want to talk about former LSU star Russell Shepard. I follow this guy on twitter and he is a humble guy. He has nothing but positive things to say and he works hard. Shepard who is a 6 foot 1 undrafted rookie has a lot to prove. So far he has proven that he is going to work out hard so he can make the 53 man roster. With Jeremy Maclin tearing his ACL, this only opens up more opportunity for him.
