Ken Rosenthal plays bury the lead in his column about John Russell’s future today with this semi-bombshell about Neal Huntington’s conract status in the third paragraph:
The Pirates already have extended general manager Neal Huntington’s contract through 2011 and might also have exercised Russell’s club option for next season, one major-league source says.
Rob Biertempfel tweets that the Pirates will announce a statement this afternoon. Presumably that staement will deny that Huntington’s been extended, that Russell’s might be fired, that PNC Park exists, and that man has landed on the moon, for good measure. And then within a month, Huntington will be extended and Russell will be fired.
