Frisco, TX – Team Takedown’s Jake Rosholt managed to exact a measure of revenge Friday night when he grinded out a one-sided three round unanimous decision over fellow former UFC veteran Matt Horwich.
While Horwich may have been the victor in their 2010 meeting, this time the fight was all Rosholt. Using a mix of wrestling, guile, and boxing Rosholt was able to impose his will on the game Howrich. Horwich tried on numerous occasions to rally a comeback but Rosholt simply proved to be too strong and too tenacious to be denied.
Scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27 all in favor of Rosholt who has been making a strong case for a potential return to the UFC.
Speaking of the UFC, former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez managed to run his unbeaten streak to two years as he easily handled Doug Williams in the night’s co-main event. Williams was a last-minute substitute and despite being valiant enough to take a fight of this caliber on short notice, was clearly outclassed by the UFC vet.
Rodriguez took care of things quickly after sweeping Williams off his feet, took the back and sunk in the fight-ending rear naked choke.
The official time of the submission was 2:16 in the opening round.
Emmanuel Newton managed to grind out an unimpressive three round decision over Ilir Latifi in a light heavyweight bout. Neither fighter seemed eager to try and engage the other but it was Newton who was the busier fighter throughout the contest.
Scores were 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28 in favour of Newton.
Doug Frey and Eric Perez engaged in a very entertaining three-round war. While Frey enjoyed an edge in the striking in the first round, it was Perez who would rally back through guts and determination to control the fight. In the end, it was Perez’s boxing and relentless submission attempts that carried him to victory.
Scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27 all in favor of Perez.
Alan Joubain and Andrew Goldthwaite engaged in what very well could have been the evening’s fight of the night. Both fighters had exceptional Muay Thai striking skills but in exchanges it was Joubain who landed the crisper, harder shots. Things ended in spectacular fashion as a wicked hook put Goldthwaite out for the night.
The official time of the stoppage was 2:37 in the third round.
