Not only did their former college team the UConn Huskies lose to Michigan in the season opener on Saturday, now a few former Huskies are looking for new jobs after cutdown day in the NFL.
Cody Brown of the Arizona Cardinals, Julius Williams of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Donald Thomas of the Miami Dolphins, Larry Taylor of the New York Jets and Tyler Lorenzen of the New Orleans Saints were all cut by their respective teams.
Brown, a Cardinals second round pick in 2009, missed the 2009 season after suffering a wrist injury during the preseason. Williams had made the Jaguars in 2009 as undrafted rookie free agent saw action in 11 games last year with eight tackles.
Thomas was drafted by the Dolphins in the 6th round of the 2008 draft and earned the starting right guard position on the third day of training camp. Unfortunately for him, he suffered a broken foot during the first game that season and was placed on injured reserve. He returned in 2009 to appear in all 16 games starting in 12 of them.
Taylor was signed by the Jets during January after two years in the CFL. There are rumors circulating that the Jets are going to try to sign him to the practice squad.
Lorenzen signed with the Jaguars an undrafted rookie free agent in 2009 but was cut. He ended up getting a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Saints practice squad.
