Roy Halladay Pitches a Perfect Game

Roy Halladay was perfect on Saturday night.  He struck out 11 of the 27 batters he faced and completed the 2nd perfect game of the season, and just the 2nd in Phillies history.

Roy Halladay had a perfect game against the Tigers in 1998 through 8 2/3 innings, but it was broken up by Bobby Higginson.  Interesting enough, the Marlins had Cameron Maybin, another Tigers farm product, due up in the 9th inning to face Halladay, but the Marlins pinch hit for him.  Halladay struck out pinch hitter, Helms, on a perfect inside fastball.  The rest was literally history.

Congratulations to Halladay and, geez, the city of Philadelphia.  If the Flyers hold on to their 3-2 first period lead in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the city of brotherly love is going to get absolutely nuts.  I imagine plenty of people getting tased and puking on each other.

EDIT (1:30 am): Unfortunately, Halladay provided all the joy in Philadelphia tonight. The Blackhawks came back to win 6-5 to take a 1-0 series lead. -Rob
