It will never get old!
For the first time since WrestleMania, The Undertaker made an appearance on WWE TV. The Deadman was arguably the biggest star in the history of SmackDown so it would make sense to have him appear on the special 900th episode of the show. As soon as that familiar toll of the bell hit the arena and the lights went out, the crowd in attendance went nuts, as I’m sure everyone watching at home did as well!
The moment that it was announced Taker would be there, questions starting coming as to what he would be doing? Just a one off appearance? Starting his WrestleMania program with someone?
What we got were several semi-cryptic messages that pretty much told us we would be seeing The Undertaker more than we had in previous years – that’s always a good thing!
The Undertaker made it clear that he did not want to just be a WrestleMania star, he wanted more. Letting us know that he was back on SmackDown now and will be “taking souls and digging holes!” Seriously, 26 years and he’s still coming up with bad-ass tag lines!
But who would be the first to square off with The Deadman? Taker made it clear last night that if Team SmackDown let him down that they would need to fear him. So, obviously it will be a member of Team Blue’s Survivor Series team.
I started thinking about who would make the most sense storyline wise and how the Survivor Series match could transition into an Undertaker program.
It hit me that original reports stated that Randy Orton would not be available for Survivor Series as he needed some time off to be with his pregnant wife who is due this month (side note – congrats to The Viper!). Could that be it? Could Orton no-show the Brand Battle which would obviously “let down” The Undertaker?
Orton vs The Undertaker would be a draw, no question about that. But in the back of my mind I just kept thinking…it’s been done. It’s been a while, but it’s been done. What about something new.
Then a thought crossed my mind that put a pretty big smile on my face, if Team SmackDown loses, who takes responsibility? Who else…the captain of the team!
I’m calling it now – Royal Rumble – The Undertaker vs AJ Styles!
In 2009, CM Punk beat Jeff Hardy in a TLC match at SummerSlam. During the post-match celebration, the lights went out and The Undertaker appeared out of nowhere to stake his claim as the next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship.
AJ Styles is set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a few weeks against Dean Ambrose at the TLC pay per view in a TLC match. After that, déjà vu.
The Undertaker will appear and take out AJ Styles which will lead to a clash between the two in the Alamo Dome in January.
The Dome is a big place to fill with a lot of tickets to sell. A match between The Face that Runs the Place and The Conscience of WWE is an easy way to sell the gigantic stadium out.
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? WILL AJ STYLES TAKE ON THE UNDERTAKER? WHEN WOULD IT HAPPEN? HOW DO YOU SEE IT ENDING? FOLLOW US ON TWITTER @FROM_THETOPROPE AND LIKE OUR NEW FACEBOOK PAGE AND LET US KNOW!
