Rubby De La Rosa Shines as Sox Win 6 Straight!

The Red Sox have won 5 straight games and were looking to call-up Rubby De La Rosa to make it 6 straight. Game 1 of the series was all about hit batters, drama and ejections, but last night was just about quality pitching and hitting from the Sox.

The game stayed tied until the 3rd inning when the Sox got on the scoreboard. Brock Holt hit his first major league homerun to put the Sox up 2-0. A third run was scored in the inning when Carp hit a sac fly to score Bogaerts. Sox 3-0. In the 4th the Sox added another run when Herrera hit a bunt single that scored Sizemore and chased Odorizzi from the game. Sox 4-0. The Sox scored another run in the inning off the Rays bullpen when Pierzynski hit an RBI single to score Herrera. Sox 5-0. In the 5th the Sox grabbed two more runs when Jackie Bradley Jr. hit his first homerun of the season. Sox 7-0. The game from pitching to scoring was all about the young players getting it done.

All the that the Sox were getting over Rays pitching, Rubby De La Rosa was pitching a gem. He threw a pitch that touched 100 on the radar gun and also threw a really effective changeup. He looks like a guy who wants to and probably should stay in the rotation. De La Rosa pitched 7 scoreless innings and his pitching line for the night was 105 pitches, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB and 8 Ks. I’ll take that every 5 days.

In the 8th Alex Wilson took the mound for the Sox. Kiermaier was the first batter that Wilson faced and he hit the ball in what turned out to be an in the park homerun. Sox 6-1. Jackie Bradley Jr. ran to the wall to field the ball, jumped and the ball bounced above him and ended up hitting him in the face. Bradley stayed in the game and seemed okay. This was the 2nd person hit in the face by a ball in the game since Rays catcher was hit on a ball that bounced off Pierzynski’s gear and hit him in the nose. Solias left the game and we learned luckily it wasn’t broken. Wilson finished out pitching the game and the Sox have now won 6 straight games.

Red Sox 7 Rays 1 BOXSCORE
