2010 Bucs Lookback- Carpenter, Rudy

You could hear the chant…”Rudy, Rudy, Rudy” ! No, it wasn’t movie night from Blockbuster, it was Saturday Night at Raymond James football and Rudy Carpenter was making his mark as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3rd string hopeful QB.

Many think Josh Johnson is the 2nd String backup to Josh Freeman and will be for life, but don’t be surprised if one day the  Bucs hand those strings over to Carpenter.

Rudy was Everything as a prep player in California, reaching the best 70 football high school players in the state! He had a great career at Arizona State but went undrafted, being signed by the Dallas Cowboys the day after the draft. The Cowboys waived him Sept. 5th 2009 and immediately but him on their practice squad.
In a theme often repeated in this series, the Bucs swiped him off the Cowboys Practice Squad on November 23rd same year. The Bucs promoted Carpenter to the regular roster a year later in Nov. 2010.

Rudy had a nice preseason last year, and looked sharp with both his decision making and his accuracy. The Bucs truly are deep at the QB position for years to come.
