Tonight, Roy Halladay did not have it on the mound and the Phillies bats were silent versus Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann. The Nationals defeated the Phillies 5-2 and have taken the first two games of this series.
Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw six innings, gave up nine hits and five earned runs, and also had six strikeouts. But the thing that hurt Halladay was that he gave up two home runs. The two home runs that were hit tonight were by Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond and center fielder Rick Ankiel. The Phillies offense was decimated early in the game by the third inning, as catcher Carlos Ruiz was ejected for arguing balls and strikes.
The Phillies have lost four games straight and are now 21-23. The Phils will be looking to salvage the last game of this series tomorrow night at 7:00 pm. On the mound for the Phillies it will be Cole Hamels (6-1, 2.48 ERA) and on the mound for the Nationals it will be Edwin Jackson (1-1, 3.31 ERA).
