Rulers of The Big Ten

There’s a humorous little snit going on behind the scenes at the Big Ten Bloggers.  I won’t get into the details of it, as I’m not out to shine lights on any of my brothers.  But it did lead me to want to make this post.

Ohio State, should they win their final two games at Illinois and against Michigan, will be crowned Big Ten Champions for the fourth consecutive year.  Apparently, that factoid makes us Ohio State fans “presumptous”.  Well, if that’s the case, then so be it.  All the denials of our four straight titles will get you nowhere.  If we pull off two more wins, it’s the reality.

But it’s worth noting exactly what this Ohio State group of seniors has accomplished, and what they have done in comparison to the rest of the conference.

Therefore, I give you the cumulative Big Ten records of the entire conference of the past four years;

Ohio State 27-3
Penn State 21-9
Michigan 20-10
Wisconsin 19-12
Iowa 14-16
Northwestern 13-17
Purdue 12-18
Michigan State 12-19
Illinois 10-20
Minnesota 10-20
Indiana 8-22

Take another look at that….three losses in a four-year span.

Let me add this….over the past four years, EVERY TEAM in the Big Ten (except Ohio State) has had AT LEAST one year where they have lost 4 or more Big Ten games in a single season.  Meanwhile, the Buckeyes have not lost 4 Big Ten games over the entire four-year span.

So, yeah.  We have earned that honor.  And if we win our final two games, a fourth straight title is the LAST thing that should be brushed off.  No other team is closer than six full games away from matching our record.  We’ll happily take your insults and set them next to our trophies.
