Run the Boston Marathon. From Anywhere. For a Good Cause!

April 21, 2014 will be a time of celebration, triumph and heartbreak for the city of Boston. The Boston Marathon will take place as the 118th run from Hopkinton, MA to downtown Boston will commence. This year, the Boston Athletic Association has come up with an amazing idea that will also in turn donate to One Fund Boston. That idea is an app called "World Run".

I run, but I don't consider myself a runner. There are people I know in my personal life that are awesome enough to complete a Boston Marathon, but I'll never be one of them. This app, however, allows you to set a certain distance that you want to run and you pick the length of time you want to complete it. We initially heard about this through our friends at Next Impulse Sports, specifically Pete Blackburn who also does our Bruins gifs.

Boston Marathon World Run, available for all desktop and mobile platforms, integrates with social media networks to create a virtual running community. The objective is for participants to achieve their self-determined running goals by the evening of the 2014 Boston Marathon, April 21, 2014. Users, who can participate individually or in teams, receive digital training and finisher badges as part of the program, as well as a bib number and finisher certificate. Participants are also encouraged to upload their distance pledged, photos.
