With the Rangers down 2-0 against the Flyers in the second period during the Winter Classic yesterday, Mike Rupp scored a momentum changing goal that he sealed with a Jaromir Jagr trademark salute…
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhLTi-oi7Lo&w=450&h=315]According to the above video, on the next shift Scott Hartnell skated up to Rupp and said that Jagr was a Hall of Famer and he needed to show him a little respect.
Jagr responded to the salute post game…
Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy notes that Jagr also added this post game…
“We’re still going to be play them three more times. And I think I’m going to score and I’m going to salute him back.”
…nothing wrong with a little gamesmanship towards a bitter rival. Hope the Flyers are more worried about getting back at Rupp the next time the two teams meet than trying to win.
What did Rupp have to say about his salute (via Pat Leonard)…
“I was happy to score that goal, and that’s kind of where I’ll leave it.”
Speaking of Rupp, The Hockey News takes an in-depth look at him.
