Larry Brooks at the New York Post talks with Mike Rupp about his knee injury and how his return to the line-up is similar to starting the season over. Here’s Rupp on the knee injury negatively effecting his play in camp and the beginning of the year…

“I don’t want to use the knee as an excuse, I tried to battle through as well as I could, but I think some of my decisions on the ice were affected by how I was feeling,” said Rupp. “I feel good now about being able to play the way I want to play and am expected to play.

“It’s an opportunity for me to hit the re-set button.”

Rupp also explains that he was pleasantly surprised that the Rangers organization allowed him to travel with the team while recovering from knee surgery which allowed him to form a close bond with the team.

…i know Rupp doesn’t want to use the injury as an excuse, but if you’re injured, you’re injured. He would have done the Rangers no good compensating for his injury rendering him a shell of his former shelf. Now that he’s gotten the knee taken care of, he can be confident on the ice and be a productive player for the Rangers.

…and I think you saw that Saturday night when he threw a huge hit, mixed it up and almost scored on a breakaway.

…the only problem with Rupp’s return to form is it probably means the end of Sean Avery.
