A few weeks removed from hiring Corliss Williamson, the Sacramento Kings have made another addition to their coaching staff. The team announced this afternoon that former NBA player Ryan Bowen has been hired as an assistant coach and assistant director of player development.
According to the Kings, Bowen will provide support to fellow assistant Dee Brown in all areas of “on-court player development”. The Kings hired Brown as a coach and director of player development prior to the start of Summer League last month.
Bowen arrives in Sacramento with ties to new general manager Pete D’Alessandro. The 37-year-old spent the previous two seasons with D’Alessandro in Denver, working as an assistant under former head coach George Karl. Prior to joining the Nuggets’ coaching staff, Bowen worked as a video coordinator at the University of Iowa, his alma mater.
Bowen played for four different teams in 10 NBA seasons. He appeared in 507 career games with the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets and finally the Oklahoma City Thunder before retiring in 2009. The Kings new assistant coach also played overseas in Turkey for Oyak Renault and Ironi Nahariya in Israel.
Bowen is the sixth addition to Malone’s coaching staff. He joins a stable of coaches that already includes Williamson, Brown, Chris Jent, Micah Nori and Brendan Malone.
