The Milwaukee Brewers have signed Ryan Braun to an 8-year, $45 million dollar extension Thursday morning. It’s the largest deal in team history in terms of both length and monetarily.
Braun is the reigning NL Rookie of the Year and has continued to play well this season after moving to left field from third base.
He batted .324 with 34 home runs and 97 RBI in only 113 games last season. He has a slugging percentage of .634, the highest mark for a rookie in major league history.
This season Braun is batting .287 with 9 home runs and 29 RBI.
This is a GREAT signing for the Brewers not only for their future but to show fans that ownership is serious about winning.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to be a Brewers fan on a day like today. This franchise spent years of suffering through management that didn’t care and gave money to people that didn’t deserve it. Ryan Braun is now the face of the Milwaukee Brewers at least through the 2015 season.
Sights now turn to Prince Fielder to see if he decides to get on board long-term with the Brewers. Make no mistake about it though, signing Ryan Braun was the top priority. Prince Fielder can be replaced much easier than someone like Ryan Braun could.
