Ryan Clark, Mark Brunell, Head Former Redskins In The Playoffs.

Dan Steinberg’s DC Sports Bog post yesterday on former Redskin Ryan Clark got me thinking who else that once played for the Washington Redskins are alive in the NFL playoffs?

Here’s the quick list I’m able to find:

STEELERS
Ryan Clark S, 2005-06 Redskins thought Adam Archuleta was better. Won Super bowl ring with the Steelers after the 2008 season.
Antwaan Randle-El WR, 2006-09 Played out of position as No. 2 wide receiver when Brandon Lloyd, Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly busted. The late emergence of Anthony Armstrong finally exceeded Randle-Els ’09 performance of 50 catches for 530 yards.
Shaun Suisham K, 2006-09      2009 performance of 85.7 percent of field goals made not good enough for Redskins. Graham Gano was 68.6 percent this year. Suisham is 93.3 percent accurate since joining the Steelers this year.
JETS
Mark Brunell QB, 2004-07 Joe Gibbs‘ favorite game manager during his second run with Washington. Won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints last season.
Jason Taylor DE, 2008 Shades of Albert Haynesworth! DC Greg Blache did not want Taylor any more than he wanted Haynesworth and, like Haynesworth, did not adjust his defense to best exploit Taylor’s talent. A medical issue short-circuited Taylor’s playing time. One season with the organization was enough for him anyway. Released when Taylor declined to join team OTAs, like Haynesworth, to be close to his family in Miami as the Redskins promised he could. Rejoined the Dolphins who had the Redskins two’ draft picks for trading Taylor.
PACKERS
Mark Murphy DB, 1977-84 Redskins player who bridged the late George Allen to early Joe Gibbs years, then to Georgetown Law and MBA from American U. Worked both the labor and management side of the NFL, followed by a long career as a college athletic director before joining the Packers where was named president and CEO in 2007. The Packers official web site has Murphy’s impressive bio. Just goes to show what competent organizational leadership does for a pro team.
BEARS
Todd Collins QB, 2006-09 A better performer than Rex Grossman under similar circumstances. Never got the shot he should have to start in Al Saunders’ offense. Not very impressive in anything other than Saunders’ offense.
Mike Martz QB coach, 1997-98 Early mentor to Trent Green and Gus Frerotte. How might Washington’s fortunes have changed if they managed to keep Green instead of losing him to the salary cap? Oh, never-mind. Green would have been dumped for Jeff George, just like Brad Johnson. Does Martz time in DC qualify him for the Norv Turner coaching tree?
Mike Tice TE, 1989 More of a blocker than a catcher, had one reception for two yards in his single season in Washington. That makes Tice a Hog, sort of. Guess that’s why he is the offensive line coach for Da Bears.
