New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a MCL sprain in his left knee during the third quarter of a 27-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Although not considered serious, Fitzpatrick’s injury could impact the Jets’ quarterback decision.
Second-year man Bryce Petty replaced Fitzpatrick for four snaps on Sunday, completing both pass attempts for 19 yards. It was his first regular-season action since being drafted 103rd overall in 2015.
If Jets coach Todd Bowles does not believe Fitzpatrick can play in next Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, then Petty could make his first career start.
With Fitzpatrick ailing and Geno Smith on the injured reserve list, the Jets don’t have a ton of experience at the quarterback position. Rookie Christian Hackenberg sits behind Petty on the depth chart.
