Ryan Kerrigan is the new face of the Redskins

PayforPlay

Fans want Ryan Kerrigan to grace the cover of their Facebook page more than any other Redskins player.

The Redskins created downloadable profile covers that fans may install on their Facebook page. The covers feature six players and it is an informal measure of player popularity. Kerrigan’s was the most downloaded cover by a wide margin.

DeSean Jackson was the second most downloaded play followed by Robert Griffin III, a distant third who  barely beat out RB Alfred Morris and LB Keenan Robinson.

Jordan Reed brought up the rear.

The Redskins offered a narrow selection of players. Neither Trent Williams nor Pierre Garcon were offered. The sample size is small. My statistics professor warned against drawing broad conclusions from a thin base. Still, this tends to reinforce the public’s sense of who are the real contributors.

Kerrigan has been the team’s most consistent player over the past four seasons. He is the Redskins best pass rusher. Fans have a positive feeling about him.

Jackson is Washington’s most exciting player. He has only been with the team one season. He is the only game-breaker on the roster.

We already know that Robert Griffin III has slipped in fan esteem.  The Redskins recently staged low key interviews and appearances to rehabilitate his image.

He is the only quarterback on the roster certain most likely to be on next year’s roster, but he is a development project as he evolves to a conventional NFL pocket passer.

Hog Heaven believes he will do well. We are no longer making excuses for him, though.

Fans suspect that Jordan Reed does not have the durability for the NFL.

Fans are losing faith in TE Jordan Reed and it shows in the number of downloads of cover pages that feature him. It’s barely a ripple.

News broke yesterday that Reed would undergo a medical procedure on his left knee that will sideline him until training camp. Nobody was surprised.

We think Reed can be a game-changing tight end, but he only has six starts in two seasons. He has missed 12 of 32 games. He is effective when he plays. His 932 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns hint at his potential.

Fans are beginning to suspect, however, that he does not have the durability to play at this level. We are ignoring the page cover featuring his image.

That’s a hint to the Redskins. We want to see more of Kerrigan and Jackson. We want to see more of Reed on the field.

The Redskins posted the number of installed downloads by player. That was helpful. Here are the numbers as of the time I wrote this story.
