Five things from the game tonight:
1.) I am actually astounded that we have the number one penalty killing unit in the league. Maybe it’s because our power play is so abysmal that you would think the opposite would be bad too. Being 2-for-2 against the second best power play in the league though? I’ll take it.
2.) If Thomas Vanek getting his eye cut, plus getting a stick to the mouth, PLUS going right back out and trying to or making a difference for this team isn’t proof enough, dude is tough. I know all you Vanek non-believers have the rose colored glasses on and still thinks he isn’t worth what be makes but he’s doing his best out there. The real beast mode.
3.) Jhonas Enroth and Ryan Miller have five-holelosis. A disease in which it is impossible to close the five-hole on breakaways. Solve this, Jim Corsi. Good job still, little Swedish Meatball.
4.) I like the royal blues tonight for the away game. I really fancy these jerseys and hope they can stick around for awhile as the thirds. We should just always wear them on the road…if only.
5.) After tonight’s game, I say play Miller on Tuesday. He’ll be up against a deflated Winnipeg Jets team who hasn’t had much going for them so far this year. Maybe it’ll bring back some confidence in the guy and get him back to where he needs to be. I have the upmost faith in Ryan. Oh wait, but there is a goalie controversy! Oh no! But Miller sucks now and Enroth will always save the day, right?
Wrong.
This is another topic for another day, though. Being a Canucks fan second, I know what it’s like to see a goalie controversy going on. It’s happening in Vancouver right now. One of these days I’ll do research and see what I can conjure up with.
Next game is at home against the Jets on Tuesday at 7. First home game I’m not going to this year against a team I really wanted to see in person. Oh well. Go Sabres.
