The Sacramento Kings have announced the construction and demolition timeline for their new downtown arena.
According to a release sent by the team yesterday, construction crews will work from 6 am to 11 pm, Monday through Saturday, to build the new entertainment and sports complex. Some abatement on the Downtown Plaza has already begun, but demolition on the new arena is set for late July and the public will be notified within a day or two of that happening.
There will also be three “to-be-announced phases” in which night work will be done between 8pm and 6 am. In accordance with the environmental impact report, noise will be minimized by generators used on-site. Mufflers and dampers will be “placed as far from residences and business” according to the Kings.
The demolition area of the Downtown Plaza will be between 5th, 7th, J and L Streets. It does not include Macy’s, the Marshall Hotel, Jade Apartments, 24-Hour Fitness, the office on 660 J Sreet, the Scientology building and the University of San Francisco extension on 7th. Viewing windows will be in place on the 7th Street side between USF and 24-Hour Fitness as well as the 5th Street side in between Macy’s and River City Brewery during demolition and construction of the Downtown Plaza.
“This project is first and foremost about the City of Sacramento so we’re thrilled to be several weeks out from starting demolition,” Kings president Chris Granger said in a statement to Cowbell Kingdom. “We have a lot of work to do over the next two years, but we feel great about meeting our deadline to open fall of 2016.”
A brief outline of the project schedule is written below.
