The Sacramento Kings will field a team with plenty of talent in Las Vegas Summer League. Seven players who’ve seen time on an NBA court will be part of the Kings’ summer league roster in Vegas.
Ben McLemore, Derrick Williams, Ray McCallum, Quincy Acy and rookie Nik Stauskas will headline the Kings’ Vegas team. It will also feature players with NBA experience like Jared Cunningham, veteran Dwayne Jones and guard MarShon Brooks. Cunningham joined the Kings at the tail end of last season while Jones previously played for Kings head coach Michael Malone while he was an assistant in Cleveland.
In addition to Stauskas, the Kings will have two other Canadians suit up for them in Vegas. Big man Sim Bhullar and Nick Wiggins, who is the older brother of Cleveland Cavaliers’ swingman Andrew Wiggins, both hail from north of the border and will be on the Kings’ Vegas roster. Bhullar worked out for the Kings in Sacramento during the pre-draft process.
Like Bhullar, two other players on the Kings’ summer league roster worked out for them prior to this year’s draft. Big men Eric Moreland and Brendan Lane participated in the Kings’ first two pre-draft workouts that the team held in Sacramento last month. Lane, who split time playing his college ball at UCLA and Pepperdine, is a native of Rocklin.
Four other players round out the Kings’ 16-man roster. Guards Ra’shad James, Jake Odum, Rion Brown and forward Josh Owens take the final four spots on the Kings’ Vegas team. James appeared in 47 games with the Reno Bighorns, the Kings’ D-League affiliate, last season. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 7.6 points, 1.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 16.6 minutes per contest.
The team will hold mini-camp from July 6-10 before summer league tips off on July 11 at the campus of UNLV. The Kings will play in at least five games, beginning with a contest on Friday, July 11 against the San Antonio Spurs. Like last year, the Kings’ summer league team will once again be coached by lead assistant Chris Jent.
Vegas Summer League will feature a tournament-style schedule for a second-straight year. A winner will be crowned in the championship game to be played on July 21. The entire schedule for Vegas Summer League can be found here.
