The Sacramento Kings will move into a shiny new arena in October 2016 and we now know what it will be called. At a gathering at the new construction site this morning, Kevin Johnson, Vivek Ranadivé and Golden 1 CEO Donna Bland announced that the Kings’ new home will be known as the Golden 1 Center.
“This is more than a naming rights announcement,” Ranadivé said in a prepared statement. “We chose Golden 1 because they share our vision for the future of Sacramento, and together, we’ll invest in the community to grow into the next great American city its citizens deserve.”
According to the Sports Business Journal, it is a 20-year deal worth $120 million to purchase the naming rights to the entertainment and sports complex in the heart of the city’s downtown core.
Established in 1933, Golden 1 has a long established name in California. With over $9 billion in assets, Golden 1 is the nation’s sixth largest credit union and a staple in the Sacramento region.
“Golden 1 Center and the accompanying downtown development is laying the foundation for Sacramento’s future,” Mayor Johnson added. “This local partnership creates the perfect synergy to help drive our new economy. Joining two of Sacramento’s most successful brands will have an exponentially strong impact to support current and future jobs in our region and city’s urban core.”
Sleep Train will continue their sponsorship of the Kings’ current arena in Natomas until 2016.
