The Sacramento Kings received great news this afternoon, when an MRI confirmed that 24-year-old DeMarcus Cousins sustained no structural damage to his right knee during Team USA mini-camp today in Chicago.
Cousins was helped from the floor earlier today after tie-up on the floor with Anthony Davis. The Sacramento Kings starting center stayed down for a few seconds before limping off and sitting out the remainder of practice.
“I am hopeful that DeMarcus is fine and he did not suffer anything major,” Team USA director Jerry Colangelo told media following the practice. “I don’t know, however, and that’s why he is getting checked out.”
USA Basketball team physician Dr. Lisa Callahan confirmed the diagnosis and Cousins is now listed as day-to-day.
Early reports stated that Cousins will miss Saturday night’s match up against the Brazilian national team as a precaution, but the official press release from Team USA makes no mention of his availability.
Cousins is one of 16 players vying for 12 spots on Team USA for the World Cup, which begins later this month in Spain. He averaged 22.7 points and 11.7 rebounds in 71 games last season for the Sacramento Kings.
