Michael Malone’s wallet is a little bit lighter after receiving a fine from the NBA this morning. The Sacramento Kings head coach has been penalized $25,000 “for verbal abuse of a game official and not proceeding directly to his locker room” following a 91-90 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
Malone looked upset about the lack of a no call in the waning moments of the defeat in Memphis. With 1.9 seconds remaining in the game, veteran forward Rudy Gay tangled up with Grizzlies wing Tayshaun Prince for possession of the ball and rather than call a foul, referee Marc Davis called a jump ball.
At the conclusion of the game, Malone could be seen yelling and berating the officials, leading to Sunday’s fine by the NBA.
