The Sacramento Kings have made three new hires to their basketball operations staff.
A source has confirmed to Cowbell Kingdom that the Kings have added Dee Brown, Micah Nori and Bill Pope. The Kings officially announced their hires earlier this afternoon.
Brown will serve as an assistant coach and director of player development under head coach Michael Malone. Nori has been added as an assistant and Bill Pope will serve as an advanced scout.
The 44-year-old Brown spent the last two seasons working with the Detroit Pistons under former coach Lawrence Frank. Before joining Detroit, Brown had coaching stops with the Springfield Armor of the NBA D-League, the WNBA’s San Antonio Silver Stars and the now-defunct Orlando Miracle.
Selected with the 19th overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft, Brown spent 12 seasons in the league with the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic. He is probably most remembered for winning the 1991 NBA Dunk Contest. The addition of Brown bumps Fat Lever out of his role as director of player development. He will still remain with the organization, but in a yet-to-be-determined capacity.
Nori comes to Sacramento after being a fixture for the Toronto Raptors for the last 17 years. He spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach and oversaw advance scouting operations for the team. He also served as the Raptors’ director of NBA scouting.
Pope is coming to the Kings after spending the last eight seasons with the Pistons as an assistant coach and advanced scout. Before joining Detroit, Pope spent 15 seasons coaching at the college level with stops at Youngstown State and Lincoln University in Missouri. He began his basketball career in 1988 as a manager for the Kansas Jayhawks, working under hall of fame coach Larry Brown.
