According to the Sacramento Kings official injury report, point guard Darren Collison is listed as doubtful for tonight’s game against the Dallas Mavericks with left shoulder stiffness. The 27-year-old guard was seen warming up before the game, but wasn’t able to loosen the shoulder up and is now officially out for tonight’s game.
Collison is off to a quick start this season, averaging 14.7 points, 6.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 34.7 minutes per night. If he cannot suit up against Dallas, his leadership on both ends of the floor will be sorely missed by Sacramento.
With Collison injured, coach Michael Malone will likely turn to Ramon Sessions who has struggled to get his game on track this season. Through seven contests, Sessions is averaging 4.7 points and 1.9 assists in 14.3 minutes per night. The eight-year veteran is shooting just 23.3 percent from the field and has turned the ball over 1.6 times per game, despite playing limited minutes.
Second-year guard Ray McCallum will also see time if Collison can’t go. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound McCallum played well at the end of last season and led the Kings summer league team to a championship in Las Vegas this summer. But with the additions of Collison and Sessions, the 23-year-old guard has played just 27 total minutes over five games this season.
By listing Collison as doubtful, the Kings are giving their starting point guard just a 25 percent chance of playing this evening. There is no word on how long this injury may keep Collison out, but it is not considered serious.
