There are some things that are just bigger than basketball. Though the Sacramento Kings played a game Friday night in Oklahoma City, winning or losing didn’t matter so much considering the big picture that is life following yesterday’s senseless shootings in Connecticut.
“The majority of those who died today were children,” said President Barack Obama somberly of the victims, pausing briefly to wipe back a tear as he addressed the tragedy from the White House yesterday. “Beautiful little kids between the ages of five and ten years old. They had their entire lives ahead of them – birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own.”
You’re well aware of the story by now. A 20-year-old gunman went on a terrifying rampage, killing 26 students, teachers and administrators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the small town of Newtown.
“Evil visited this community today,” said Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy of the horrifying shooting spree. “It’s too early to speak of recovery, but each parent, each sibling, each member of the family (of those affected) has to understand that Connecticut – we’re all in this together.”
Friday’s unspeakable rampage elicited emotions across the nation and the world. Members of the Kings’ took to Twitter to pay respects to the victims and their families. We have their reactions below.
