Nik Stauskas is officially a Sacramento King. The Kings announced that they signed the eighth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft to his rookie contract yesterday.
Terms of his deal were not released. But according to the CBA FAQ by salary cap expert Larry Coon, Stauskas is projected to make roughly $2.3 million in the first year of a four-season rookie scale contract. His second year is fully guaranteed while the Kings will hold team options for the third and fourth seasons.
Signing Stauskas puts the Kings projected salaries at $68.2 million for next season. That will increase once they sign new point guard Darren Collison to his new contract, which is reportedly worth $15-16 million over the next three seasons.
Stauskas earned 2013-14 Big 10 Player of the year after averaging 17.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 35.6 minutes per game at Michigan last season. The 20-year-old guard finished his career as a Wolverine ranked second all-time in career free throw percentage and fifth all-time in three-point percentage.
