The Sacramento Kings are adding another big body to the mix. The Kings are signing D-League journeyman Willie Reed for the rest of the season.
The news was first reported by Real GM, who was told about the signing by Reed’s agent, Joel Bell.
Reed is not expected to join the team for their three-game road trip that begins tomorrow in Oklahoma City. Kings head coach Michael Malone told reporters after practice that he expects the 23-year-old big man to first join the Reno Bighorns, the franchise’s D-League affiliate.
The 6-foot-10, 220 lbs. forward spent training camp with the Kings in 2012 before being waived prior the season along with Tony Mitchell and Hamady N’Diaye. Since leaving the Kings, he has spent time in the D-League, Spain and even got a tryout with the Memphis Grizzlies in training camp last summer.
In 44 games this season with the D-League’s Springfield Armor, he averaged 14.8 points on 59-percent shooting, 10.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks a night. In the month of March, Reed has excelled. Through 10 games, the former Saint Louis University star averaged 19.8 points, 15.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
