Tyler Honeycutt is headed to Reno. The Sacramento Kings announced today that they will assign the second-year forward to the Reno Bighorns, their D-League affiliate, tomorrow.
Honeycutt has yet to play in a game this season. He missed a significant portion of training camp and preseason after a physical revealed a stress fracture in his right fibula last month. Honeycutt was cleared to return to practice just three weeks ago.
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee was first to report Honeycutt’s looming assignment. Kings Coach Keith Smart suggested to Jones that sending Honeycutt to the Reno would be good for the 22-year-old’s recovery and development.
“I want to get him there as soon as possible because he needs to play,” Smart told the Bee.
Honeycutt will be available to play in tonight’s game against the Detroit Pistons. However, he must report to Reno by 5 pm on Friday. Honeycutt is the first D-League assignment of this new NBA season.
