Before leaving on a 3 pm flight for Las Vegas, the Sacramento Kings held practice Thursday. Back on the floor was a player who’s missed half of the preseason due to injury.
Second-year forward Tyler Honeycutt was cleared to practice yesterday and was seen scrimmaging with his teammates as the curtains raised during media availability of today’s workout session.
“He looked good,” said Kings head coach Keith Smart of Honeycutt’s performance. “Probably the most energetic guy on the floor.”
Smart credits the work of their strength and conditioning staff for keeping Honeycutt in good shape. Though he returned to action today, the 22-year-old forward will not play in tomorrow’s exhibition versus the Los Angeles Lakers.
Smart wants Honeycutt to have a few more practices under his belt before throwing him into a live game.
“He worked a lot today,” said Smart. “We gotta see how he responds in the morning and see if there are any hot spots or things like that.”
Honeycutt has missed the first two-and-a-half weeks of the Kings’ 2012-13 campaign due to a stress fracture in his right fibula. A similar injury in his right foot sidelined him from summer league in July.
Salmons to miss another preseason contest
John Salmons will not be with the Kings when they play the Lakers tomorrow in Sin City. The veteran swingman has missed the last two games due to personal reasons.
Smart expected to change starting lineup
The Kings head coach used a starting five of Aaron Brooks, Tyreke Evans, Travis Outlaw, Jason Thompson and DeMarcus Cousins for two-consecutive games. He’s not planning on using the same five to begin against the Lakers.
“That lineup will be (revealed) at 7:05,” Smart said with a grin.
