There are clearly two glaring holes in the roster for Wisconsin entering 2013 – the secondary (lack of experience & depth) and at wide receiver (lack of production next to Abbrederis) – and just one day before National Signing Day it appears the Badgers have locked up the services of the final member of the class of 2013 in Donnell Vercher, a Juco safety out of Fresno City College.
According to 247sports Vercher was a 3 star safety and the 10th ranked Juco safety in the class of 2013. He is the 4th member of the secondary to make a commitment to the Badgers in this class and will have two years of eligibility left to play at Wisconsin.
Vercher is listed at 6'2" and 205lbs. and judging by just his high school video is equally adept at playing around the line of scrimmage as he is in coverage – a hallmark of what Gary Andersen and Dave Aranda like to do with their safeties.
Vercher apparently had a good relationship with Badgers DC Dave Aranda dating back to his time at Utah State and that relationship and the visit he took to Wisconsin this past weekend solidified his choice. It came down to the Badgers and Syracuse for his services.
Wisconsin now has the depth needed in the secondary and protected themselves should Marcus Ball chose elsewhere tomorrow as he is the only one of the Badgers "commits" that will make it official by announcing his choice tomorrow. He backed off of his verbal following Bielema's departure, but still has Wisconsin has his top choice from all the rumblings and people I've been able to speak with.
